Pregnancy is a wonderful season that can really stretch you…literally and figuratively! Your body will begin to change as you expect your new little one but with that change comes new challenges. You may have questions such as: What should I eat during my pregnancy? When should I see a doctor? or Should I take more vitamins? Birth Choice cares for you and your new baby bean and wants to help you have the healthiest pregnancy you can! So grab a cup of your favorite decaf tea (mine currently being chai, yumm) and enjoy this article!
1.) See a doctor soon…
If you just found out you’re pregnant, first I want to say YAY! Second, try to schedule a doctor appointment with an OBGYN right away. When you have your visit with a medical professional, you will be able to ask questions, find out when your due date is, and get some tests done. You might even be able to see a picture of your baby!
2.) Take your vitamins young lady…
I can almost hear my mother yelling this phrase to me as I left for school. Prenatal vitamins are very important when you first find out you’re pregnant. Most women don’t get enough calcium, folic acid and iron in their diets, so supplements are key to you and your baby’s health. This will help balance out your nutrition and also promotes healthy organs. Raise your hand if you love a happy pancreas!
3.) Eat your leafy greens…
Eating a healthy diet is very important during pregnancy for a handful of reasons. It helps maintain your weight, provides the nutrients you and your baby need and can even help delivery go more smoothly. So put more fruits and veggies on your plate and less fried chicken. Unless you’re like me and your weakness is french fries and sour gummy worms (yikes)!
4.) Avoid drinking, smoking and Rock n Roll music…
Okay, okay, the Rock n Roll music was just a joke but you should stop using anything that can harm your babies health. The list includes tobacco, alcohol, marijuana or other drugs. If you need help in stopping these habits, let your prenatal caregiver know because they will have tools that make it easier.
5.) Keep an eye out for negative symptoms…
There are many changes that occur during pregnancy. Some are normal and some warrant concern. Some symptoms to keep watch over are pelvic cramping, fever, dizziness, blurred vision, stomach pain or vaginal bleeding. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your prenatal caregiver right away and they will be able to help.
In conclusion, whether you choose to parent or find a loving adoptive home for your baby, taking good care of yourself will give your baby the best possible start in life and you will enjoy a healthier pregnancy. Get some good sleep, try to relax, eat more apples and enjoy the journey! It is never too late to start taking care of yourself and your precious new child! And of course, if you need any support, your neighbors at Birth Choice care for you!
